I’m pretty pleased with how my body has improved in the almost-three months I’ve been doing yoga. I’m pretty flexible to begin with, but yoga has been pushing me even further in that department. Also, I like how it has been instrumental in making me stronger. In my first month, my side planks had to be modified by bringing one knee down to the ground, which really didn’t do anything to strengthen my arm. Lately, I’ve been doing side planks more easily, even bringing one foot up to rest on my inner leg with no trouble at all.
I’ve also impressed myself by being able to do a split now. Doing splits has been a frustration since childhood, and I’ve long resigned myself to the possibility that I’ll never pick it up. Thanks to doing the eka pada rajakapotasana or one-legged king pigeon pose, however, my hips have opened up and made it easier for me to achieve a split.
I look forward to the day when I can come into a headstand and do dropbacks on my own.
